07/19/2008 - Miami, FL (Baseball Betting) - John Baker knocked in four runs and hit one of the Marlins' three home runs as Florida came away with a 9-5 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in the middle test of their three-game series at Dolphin Stadium.
Cody Ross finished a home run short of the cycle, while Jorge Cantu went 4- for-5 with two runs batted in to help the Marlins snap a two-game slide. Jeremy Hermida and Dan Uggla each recorded a home run for the victors.
Scott Olsen (6-4) threw the minimum five innings to pick up the win, allowing four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits and a pair of walks.
The Phillies' Kyle Kendrick (8-4), who came into the game unbeaten in his previous four outings, lasted just 4 1/3 innings after being touched for seven runs on 10 hits.
Pat Burrell went 3-for-5 with a double and two home solo home runs for Philly, which had won five of six coming into the game.
After Burrell tied the game at four with a solo blast in the away fifth, Florida brought out the big sticks in the bottom half to take the lead for good.
Hermida led off the frame with his 11th round-tripper of the year, and after Josh Willingham singled, Uggla slugged his 24th home run to left for a 7-4 edge.
Matt Lindstrom and Renyel Pinto each tossed a perfect inning of relief for Florida before Cantu ripped a two-run single off the left field wall against reliever Rudy Seanez in the seventh.
Burrell's leadoff blast in the eighth off Doug Waechter made it a four-run game, and the Phillies made it interesting by leading the bases with one out in the top of the ninth.
Kevin Gregg didn't give in to the heart of the Phillies lineup, however, fanning Ryan Howard and getting Burrell to ground into a force out at second to seal the win.
Cantu was busy at the hot corner in the away second. The third baseman threw out a pair of runners at the plate, but bobbled another dribbler that allowed a run to score. He also ended the inning with a bases-loaded force out throw to second on Jimmy Rollins' grounder.
Philly's 1-0 lead didn't last long. Florida's first two hitters in the bottom of the second got on and Baker deposited an inside Kendrick fastball into the first row of seats in right field.
The Phillies hung tough thanks to a one-out triple by Pedro Feliz in the fourth. Chris Coste doubled him home and scored the tying run when Rollins singled up the middle.
Once again the Marlins had an answer with their at-bat. Phillies right fielder Jayson Werth couldn't come up with a flare from Ross, who was credited with a triple. Baker followed by looping an RBI single to center for a 4-3 lead.

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
