01/27/2007 - Tuscaloosa, AL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa is the site of today's SEC battle between the Arkansas Razorbacks and Alabama Crimson Tide.
Not much has gone right for Arkansas lately, as the team has lost four of its last five games to fall to 13-7 overall and 2-4 in league. All five of the team's true road tilts have resulted in defeat, including a 66-60 setback to South Carolina on Wednesday.
Alabama is undoubtedly eager to get back to action after getting crushed by Auburn on Tuesday by an 81-57 final. It is hard to justify the Tide's high national ranking, as the team has lost three of its five SEC tilts, all by more than 20 points. There is reason for confidence tonight, however, as 'Bama is 10-0 at home this season.
Arkansas holds a 23-20 edge in the all-time series with Alabama, and the Razorbacks have won the last two meetings.
Arkansas is scoring 72.2 ppg while limiting opponents to 63.5 ppg, but that positive differential has much more to do with the team's play against non-league foes than against conference opponents. Patrick Beverley is the leading scorer for the Razorbacks, as he is netting 13.3 ppg on the strength of his 42.9 percent shooting from three-point range. Charles Thomas adds 12.2 ppg and 5.4 rpg to the mix, and Sonny Weems rounds out a trio of double-digit scorers with 11.8 ppg. In the six-point loss to South Carolina last time out, the Razorbacks turned the ball over 17 times, overshadowing a 15-8 edge in points from the foul line. Darian Townes led the way in defeat with 17 points off the bench, while Weems contributed 11 points. As for Beverley, he finished with 10 points on 2-of-10 shooting from the field.
Alonzo Gee continues to pace Alabama in scoring with 14.7 ppg on 51.8 percent shooting from the floor, and while his offensive output has been strong in league play, his shooting percentage against SEC foes is down considerably. Richard Hendrix is netting 13.8 ppg overall, and Jermareo Davidson checks in with 14.5 ppg and 9.1 rpg. Mykal Riley (12.6 ppg) and Ronald Steele (10.8 ppg) round out one of the most talented starting units in the nation. In the ugly loss to Auburn earlier this week, Alabama shot just 38.3 percent from the floor, including 5-of-19 from three-point range. Also, the squad finished with six assists against 17 turnovers and scored a mere six points from the foul line. Steele scored 19 points on the strength of his 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range, and Davidson finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the loss.

The AFC South and the NFC East are the favorite divisions to have the next Super Bowl champ among them in the NFL betting odds. But more down to the point, these football odds are in favor of the Indianapolis Colts, by far the strongest team in the AFC South, and the Dallas Cowboys of the NFC East.
Most sports fans would agree that these two teams top the list to win it all before the season even begins. In the BetUS Sportsbook football futures, the Colts are +800 in the odds to win the Super Bowl, while the Cowboys are sitting at +1000 and the Super Bowl XLIV champions New Orleans Saints at +900. In the AFC South, the Colts won the division for five straight years after the 2002 realignment, before the Tennessee Titans won it in 2008. But the Colts came back strong in 2009 to win the division again en route to the Super Bowl. The Cowboys are the favorite to win the NFC East, as well as to advance far into the post season. The Cowboys won the division last season before their horrendous loss in the NFC Divisional playoff to Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings. But the ‘Boys will take that loss humbly and be ready for the playoffs this time around.
The NFC South is also very strong, at +600 in the NFL futures, considering that it is home to the defending Super Bowl champions. However, some predictions have the Atlanta Falcons with possibilities of claiming the divisional title this season in place of the Saints, as no team has won back-to-back division championships since the division realignment took place. Let’s not overlook the AFC North at +500. As TO goes to Cincinnati to join Chad OchoCinco and Adam “Pac-Man” Jones, this team looks to claim the division title again. And it is likely they will do so. The Bengals lost in the AFC Wild Card spot in a hard-fought battle against the New York Jets last season. Lest not forget the Pittsburgh Steelers, the XLII Super Bowl Champions… All these teams present interesting odds and matchups for the upcoming season, but the safest and surest bet seems to be with the Colts in the AFC South and the Cowboys in the NFC East.
